So the VMA’s Happened…Who Won?

Under vibrant, blinding lights with booming speakers overhead, some of the most talented artists of the year took the stage, delivering unforgettable live performances in honor of their VMA nominations. These artists, regardless of their years in the industry, presented shows that left lasting impressions. The crowd’s emotions shifted unpredictably—from the infectious energy of Tyla and Katy Perry, who had fans dancing, to Benson Boone’s emotionally charged performance, which moved many to tears. Each artist competed with their originality, lyrics, and music videos, vying for the top honors at the VMAs.

Given the immense talent in the music world today, the VMA event would be impossible without clear categories. The most anticipated awards include Song of the Summer, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year, among others. The winner of each category reflects not only the artist’s popularity but also their impact on the cultural zeitgeist. The question, however, remains: who exactly took home a VMA this September?

Let’s start with one of the most prestigious awards—Song of the Year. This year’s winner was a well-deserved one, as Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” has been on repeat since its release. Carpenter, who first rose to fame as a Disney star on Girl Meets World, has since carved out a successful music career. Her breakout moment came when she opened for Taylor Swift on tour, gaining widespread attention, especially through platforms like TikTok. This year, “Espresso” solidified her place in the music industry, and it’s clear she will continue to enjoy success and accolades for years to come.

One name dominated the night—Taylor Swift. Unsurprisingly, the global superstar took home an impressive seven VMAs in 2024. Among her wins were Song of the Summer, Video of the Year, Pop Video of the Year, and Artist of the Year. Swift’s popularity surged in 2023 with the release of Midnights, and since then, she’s been on an unstoppable tour, cementing her status as one of the most popular and wealthy artists in history. Her collaboration with Post Malone on “Fortnite,” part of the album Tortured Poets Department, played a key role in her record-breaking night.

Another significant award was for New Artist of the Year, and the deserving winner was Chappell Roan. Roan’s unique musical style, whether or not it resonates with every listener, is undeniably infectious. With songs like “HOT TO GO” and “Good Luck, Babe!” topping charts, Roan’s rise was further propelled after opening for Olivia Rodrigo. Her VMA performance—where she took the stage dressed as Joan of Arc—showed she’s not only here to stay but also poised to make a lasting impact on the music industry.

Other notable winners included Tyla for Best Afrobeats, Dua Lipa for Best Music Video Choreography, Lisa for Best K-pop Rockstar, Eminem for Best Visual Effects, and Ariana Grande for Best Cinematography. Each artist contributed to the celebration of music with memorable performances and songs that were justly recognized.

The VMAs remain one of the most revered events in the music world, showcasing the incredible talent that defines our times. With so many deserving winners, next year’s awards are sure to highlight even more extraordinary artists and moments.
